I see they’re still posting Mate’s stuff, even though he’s long gone. If you try to click on his name, though, there’s no link to his profile, like there is with any other Kinja post.
EDIT: See Patrick’s reply to me below.

Hopefully they paid him for those articles, although then again who knows with Gawker these days.

Mate did that story as a freelance piece for us, FYI. Like I said in another comment, we’re still friends.

Likely it was something that was complete or nearly complete at the time of his firing. In that case, I’d bet that the terms of his employment stated that those works were property of Gawker.

Honest question, if you’re able to answer: Why not state that at the end of the piece or have some other type of brief acknowledgement?

I’ll concede it’s an odd situation, but I figured the best way to handle it was in the comments below the story if anyone asked. I wanted the McLaren review to speak for itself.

Fair enough.
I have to give you credit, Patrick, for being actively involved with the community of readers. It’s very underappreciated and really goes a long way toward making us feel like we’re heard.

EDIT: NVM, wasn’t as funny out loud as it was in my head

The article’s not showing up on Máté’s profile either...

Thank you. I do my best. When I can address things, I always try to.

So his being let go was more about situational circumstances and less about he himself?
